We couldn’t secure Chinese visas, so we rerouted to Kathmandu, Nepal. This meant a 13 hour layover in Guangzhou where the transit visa official graciously granted us a transit visa to leave the airport and book a hotel so we didn’t have to spend 13 hours (7pm-8am) waiting/sleeping in the airport at our gate. We walked to the Novotel Hotel and there was a sculpture and fountain along the way.
